Last week was an exciting one here at Hawthorne Books. Our first shipment of advance copies for The Chronology of Water arrived and that means we popped open the bubbly and celebrated with author Lidia Yuknavitch. It’s been a long time coming and we’re so happy to finally have and hold the book—at least for a few hours…

I know that we’ve already posted the beautiful cover of Lidia Yuknavitch’s spring 2011 Hawthorne title The Chronology of Water but we’re doing it again because now we have the belly band proofs and, well, that changes things a little.

Basically, we realized early on that a good amount of booksellers would not be happy with the cover’s nudity. We didn’t want to be hit with a bunch of returns based on that prudish, Puritanical hogwashery so we needed a solution. We wanted to keep the integrity...Forward

We know we haven’t kept you in the loop as much as we would have liked to the last few months, but there’s been a lot to keep up with. Most importantly, we moved our office from downtown Portland to Northeast Portland. As you know we’re in the business of books and, well, books aren’t that much fun to move.
